Whether you’re just getting started as a barista, have an espresso machine at home, or simply want to learn latte art technique for fun, this hands-on class is a great introduction to basic latte art. You’ll get direct instruction and practice using commercial or home espresso equipment to get one step better in pouring latte art - whether that's starting with a simple heart, or improving technique for more consistent milk texture for your more advanced pours. Dive into the delicious science behind your morning latte! Discover how milk’s fats and proteins shape the silky foam that makes latte art possible. Watch a live demonstration by professional baristas, then try your hand at creating your own design using freshly steamed milk. Explore the chemistry of milk structure and microfoam—all while sipping and experimenting like a true coffee scientist. This event is part of the 2026 Atlanta Science Festival. Home Espresso
This practical workshop is perfect for those who have a home espresso machine and would like to brew better shots and understand how barista technique affects taste in the cup. During the class, you’ll learn the basics of espresso extraction and work on things like grind adjustment, distribution, and tamping, learning on commercial equipment and Breville home machines. Our experienced trainers will guide you through the process, providing tips and tricks to help you sharpen your home barista skills. Students will receive a 15% discount on coffee and merchandise the day of class! Maximum Class Size: 6 students Instructor: Joel Ballard, Opo Barista & Authorized SCA Trainer
3rd Annual Cup Tasters Challenge
Our annual Cup Tasters Challenge! If you're not familiar with a cup tasters competition, this video gives a good look at the professionals. In our version, each round consists of 3 beverage pairings with 3 cups each, where 1 cup is different from the other 2. We will have coffee in each round, along with other beverages such as soda, juice, water, etc. A point is given for each correct pick and competitors will be timed in the case of a tie. The highest score in each round will move on to the next heat. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Prizes for top 3 finishers! Cost to Enter: $5 Check in begins: 5pm First Heat: 5:30pm Maximum Number of Competitors: 24
